Hashima Island — Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan
The 6.3-hectare (16-acre) island is an abandoned island lying about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the city of Nagasaki, in southern Japan. It is one of 505 uninhabited islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. The island's most notable features are its abandoned concrete buildings, undisturbed except by nature, and the surrounding sea wall.
Chateau Miranda – Celles, Belgium.
The castle was built with the intention of hiding by French aristocrats who were trying to escape the revolution. During and after World War II, the Castle began operating as an orphanage. It was suddenly abandoned in 1980, with the family denying rights to allow authorities to care for the castle. Because of its past, this haunting castle forever remains a favorite ghost hunting destination among people who visit it.
The Pontiac Silverdome was once home to major events like the Super Bowl and concerts by The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin. However, since the Detroit Lions left back in 2002 it has been empty and abandoned.
Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital — Marlboro Township, New Jersey, United States
Open from 1931 until 1998, the hospital saw a rash of strange activity, with patients going missing, choking to death, and even freezing to death. The hospital's reputation led to an investigation by the Public Advocate's Office in the late 1970s, although clearly it went on operating for a couple decades afterward. Now, the hospital is being demolished to make room for recreational space for the township's residents.
Michigan Central Station — Detroit, Michigan, United States
Just over 100 years ago, trains began arriving at the Michigan Central Station in Detroit, which was, at the time, the tallest train station in the entire world. Now, though, the station sits abandoned, not having received any trains in decades.
The 102-Year-Old Floating Forest in Sydney – Australia.
This is what is left of the SS Ayrfield, a large steam ship that went wreck in Homebush Bay, Australia after World War II. When the dismantling yard closed down, SS Ayrfield along with numerous other ships remained where they were. Now, it is a hauntingly beautiful floating forest that sets an example of nature’s struggle for survival.
Located in Berlin, Teufelsberg ("Devil's Hill") is a man-made hill built out of rubble after World War II.
During the Cold War, the dome-like structures were added and used as US listening stations. Antennas and satellite dishes were built on the site in order to intercept radio signals from East Berlin.
Salto Hotel – Colombia.
The Hotel De Salto opened in 1928 in Columbia, with the Tequendema Falls being close by, to serve tourists who came to admire the 157 meter-tall waterfall. The hotel had to be shut down in the early 1990s after people visiting the waterfall suddenly lost interest. In 2012, the site was transformed into a museum. It is thought to be haunted which makes it even more spookier.
Craco is a ghost town in the Province of Matera, in the southern Italian region of Basilicata.
The old town was abandoned due to natural disasters. The abandonment has made Craco a tourist attraction and a popular filming location.
